1) How does Rashford use different aspects of mise-en-scene (e.g. clothes/costume) to create very different representations of himself on his own website?
Previous homepage: costume is suite, used to show professionalism, dressed as a celebrity not a footballer. hand position- shows that he is ready, alert. Looks down at camera- shows that he is in control and looks mature.
New hompeage: colour scheme- sugest him as a positive role model for younger audience. Brand deals- grown as an icon, extends career. Football- proud to represent England, positive representation of BAME community, role model.
2) What representations of football or footballers can you find in Marcus Rashford's online presence? Does it reinforce or subvert traditional stereotypes of footballers?
Website represents his football career, reinforces stereotypes of footballers, masculine, male, race/ethnicity.
His campaign for child food poverty subverts stereotypes of footballers, more of an influence/role model/icon than footballer.
3) What examples can you find of website pages, social media posts or aspects of the brand that create a positive representation of Marcus Rashford?
His page on the Fareshare Campaign websites creates a positive representation of Rashford as emotive, caring. More of an influencer than just a celebrity. His emphasis working class background, how hard his mum worked as a single parent and his own positive attitude towards hard work. This creates a narrative of success against the odds
4) What representations of masculinity can you find in Marcus Rashford's online presence? Does this reinforce or challenge traditional gender stereotypes?
His book club- subverts stereotypes of masculinity and the stereotype that boys do not like to read, also those who tend to enjoy sports. His ABOUT page on his website- he is wearing blue on blue, stereotypical representation of a boy. reinforces gender stereotypes.
